Dumki, Patuakhali-8602, Bangladesh
The university is situated at the south-western part of Bangladesh. Commencing from the Patuakhali Agricultural College, PSTU was inaugurated by Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister, Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh on 8 July 2000, and started its academic activities on February 26, 2002. PSTU has given affiliation to the Barisal Government Veterinary College as its constituent faculty. This is the only science and technological university in Barisal division. The PSTU campus is at Dumki Upazila under Patuakhali district. It is about 15 kilometers north from Patuakhali district town. Being the only university in the Barisal division, PSTU was established primarily to facilitate easy access to quality higher education to a populace who had been deprived of this precious right for a very long time since the independence of Bangladesh.
In addition to producing graduates who are highly regarded in the job market, its focus is, therefore, also directed towards creating new knowledge and innovative minds. We are striving to instill the sense of right interests, attitude, morale and intellect in our students so that they are equipped with the best knowledge, skills, competence and attitude that they can utilize for their individual betterment and the prosperity of the society in general. Nevertheless, it is gradually advancing towards its goal to transform PSTU into a universally recognized Centre of Excellence.
PSTU has established eight faculties offering bachelor, masters and PhD degree. There are about 300 academic staff, 500 official staff and 3000 students. Department of Disaster Resilience and Engineering is established in 2009. This department offers bachelor degree jointly with the Faculty of disaster management. Also offering masters and PhD degree separately. Now there are 10 running masters students in Disaster Resilience and Engineering laboratory. There are two short courses including “Post graduate diploma in disaster management” and “Certificate course on Seed Technology”. This university is searching for the establishment of several research laboratories regarding modern issues Earthquake Engineering Laboratory, Tsunami Hazard Prediction Laboratory, Climate and Infrastructures Laboratory et cetera.
Research and training centre calls research project from academic staffs in each fiscal year in the different fields of research. There are several running development project funded by GoB and world bank named Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) including innovation dissemination centre, higher education laboratory of Horticulture, faculty of disaster management, plant pathology clinic et cetera. Also, some international project are going on.
